St. Bernadette Parish

SEWING GROUP

This group, which started almost 50 years ago as part of the original Women’s Guild, has a twofold objective. The first involves hemming receiving blankets for the Christ Child Society which provides layettes for needy babies. The second is to provide quilts for cancer patients at Fairview Hospital called “Care Quilts.: We are one of many groups working to provide every cancer patient at Fairview with a “Care Quilt.” The group of busy sewers meets once a month in the afternoon. This is a happy group of ladies with a happiness that comes from helping others. 

MEALS ON WHEELS

This is a ministry at St. Bernadette that assists the Meals on wheels organization which provides two meals per day five days per week (one hot and one cold) for shut-ins covering the entire Westlake Community. This is a combined effort of St. Bernadette Dover Congregational United Church of Christ, St. Paul Lutheran, Westlake United Methodist, and St. Ladislas.  Meals on Wheels currently provides daily meals from the Dover Congregational kitchen to Westlake shut-ins. St. Bernadette currently is supporting the delivery efforts on Thursdays every week of the year. We also have some volunteers from our parish who are covering meals more than one day per week. This is a large undertaking and we welcome volunteers either full or part time.

PARISH HOSTESS/WELCOMING

This ministry fulfills a service by welcoming all new members to St. Bernadette Parish with a phone call and follow-up mail packet of parish information. These packets include a welcome letter and parish directory and parish handbook. The group meets every other month. 

PARISH HOSTESS/ RECEPTION

This ministry fulfills a service to St. Bernadette as food service coordinator for all receptions within the parish. Additional help is always needed.
