BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT MINISTRY

The mission of the bereavement group is to be available to share time and support with recently bereaved St. Bernadette parishioners. Each of the volunteers has experienced either the loss of a spouse or the untimely death of a child.  While we are sometimes able to visit the funeral home prior to the funeral, we try to have a volunteer attend each funeral Mass at St. Bernadette. Follow-up involves periodically contacting those who have suffered a loss to see “how things are going.” We are available to meet with the bereaved when and where they desire. No formal meetings are planned. Another area of support is for those who have requested Masses on either Saturday evening or Sunday. We phone the person who requested the Mass to see if they or a family representative would want to bring up the gifts for the Mass they requested.   

C.A.R.E. MINISTRY (CHRISTIANS AIMING TO RESPOND TO EACH OTHER)

C.A.R.E. ministers to the sick, elderly, and the homebound of the parish by praying for and with them and by visiting and bringing Eucharist to them.  C.A.R.E. helps organize an outreach for an individual’s needs by drawing on the gifts of the larger parish community.  In addition, C.A.R.E. visits parishioners in local hospitals, serves the residents at local nursing homes, promotes the Mass for the Anointing of the Sick and Elderly, and supports through intercessory prayer those who are in need.   

SOCIAL AWARENESS COMMITTEE

The Social Awareness Committee and its Pro-Life subcommittee inform the parish on what the Catholic Church is teaching on social justice and pro-life issues.  This committee serves as a clearinghouse for information that comes from the U.S. Catholic Bishops, the Ohio Catholic Conference and our own Diocese.
